The Dark Knight

Warner Brothers: The Dark Knight

I've been avoiding as much propaganda and sneak-peek material as I can for the next installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman. Where Tim Burton's 1989 film dominated my childhood, Nolan's has brought back a different and refreshing new version for my adulthood.

Of course, how could you possibly out-do Jack Nicholson as the Joker? You can't, right? I'm glad the film makers of The Dark Knight recognized this and came up with a character who appears more interested in slicing and dicing whilst leaving a calling card, versus revenge in a twisted, poetic manner.

Anyway, I saw the trailer in theater before I Am Legend. I suppose I could have closed my eyes, covered my ears, or run to the bathroom, but instead I sat through it in a daze. I remember the Batman Begins preview filled me with dread, using extremely quick and flashy cuts without a lot of substance to convey some super-duper action movie. Thankfully I received a pleasant surprise when the movie overcame such a horrible trailer, but this one has a very decent one to build off of. A lot of the shots are lingered and doted upon to let you grasp their significance and/or power: the "bat bike", a building exploding, the sinister Joker sitting still or later turning to face the camera, etc.

So naturally I can't wait to see it. I mean, I couldn't before, but then I was trying not to pay attention to release dates, plots, etc. I'm still going to stay as low as I can, but I won't deny myself the pleasure of watching the trailer over and over.
