Portland Public WiFi

Tomorrow I will attempt to catch a train to Portland and then get a nice room at the Marriott (1401 SW Naito Parkway; Portland, OR 97201; (503) 226-7600) overlooking the Willamette River. As a faithful companion this IBM ThinkPad laptop isn't going to be much unless its allowed to make use of the internet. In order to assist in this endeavor I found WifiPDX which gave me a nice Google map of locations providing wireless access in the Downtown Portland area; here is an image I constructed based on that data:

Powell's Books dominates West Burnside Street at the top-center of this image. It is supposed to be quite the marvel, being so large, so it's definitely one of my destinations. Apparently there are two of these bookstores, one (according to my glance at Google Maps) appears to be dedicated entirely to technical books. Maybe I'll educate myself on Drupal while I'm there.

Ah yes, Powell's website provides a beautiful one-page walking map of Portland (PDF); this confirms there is Powell's City of Books as well as Powell's Technical Books.
